Mahā Mṛtyuñjaya Mantra (Tryambakam)
Om try-am-ba-kam ya-jaa-ma-he su-gan-dhim push-ti-var-dha-nam
Ur-vaa-ru-kam i-va ban-dha-naan mrit-yor muk-shee-ya maa a-mri-taat
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥
We worship the three-eyed one (Shiva) who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. May he liberate us from death as a ripe cucumber detaches naturally from the vine — but not from immortality.
tryambakam = three-eyed (Shiva); yajāmahe = we worship; sugandhim = fragrant; puṣṭi-vardhanam = increaser of nourishment; urvārukam = ripe cucumber; iva = like; bandhanān = from bondage; mṛtyoḥ = from death; mukṣīya = liberate; mā amṛtāt = not from immortality.
