Karagre Vasate Lakshmi (Morning Hand Prayer)
Ka-ragre va-sate Lak-shmih ka-ra-madhye Sa-ras-va-ti
Ka-ra-mule tu Go-vin-dah pra-bhate ka-ra-dar-sha-nam
कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मीः करमध्ये सरस्वती।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम्॥
At the tip of the hand dwells Lakshmi; in the middle of the hand is Saraswati; at the root of the hand is Govinda. One should behold one's hands in the morning.
Karāgre = fingertip; vasate = dwells; Lakṣmī = goddess of wealth; kara-madhye = middle of palm; Sarasvatī = goddess of learning; kara-mūle = root of hand; Govindaḥ = Vishnu; prabhāte = in the morning; kara-darśanam = beholding the hands.
