Deepa-jyotih Para-Brahma deepa-jyotir Janaar-danah
Deepo haratu me paapam deepa-jyotir namo-stu te
दीपज्योतिः परब्रह्म दीपज्योतिर्जनार्दनः।
दीपो हरतु मे पापं दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥
The light of the lamp is the Supreme Brahman; the light of the lamp is Janardhana (Vishnu). May the lamp remove my sins. Salutations to the light of the lamp.
dīpa = lamp; jyotiḥ = light; Para-Brahma = Supreme Reality; Janārdana = Vishnu (one who uplifts people); haratu = may remove; pāpa = sin; namo'stu te = salutation to you.
When lighting the lamp at the beginning of any puja or evening prayers.
