Pūrṇam Adaḥ Pūrṇam Idam (Isha Upanishad Shanti)
Om Puur-nam adah Puur-nam idam Puur-naat Puur-nam uda-chyate
Puur-nasya Puur-nam aadaaya Puur-nam eva-ava-shi-shyate
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih
That is whole. This is whole. From the whole, the whole emerges. Taking the whole from the whole, only the whole remains. Om — peace, peace, peace.
pūrṇam = whole/complete/infinite; adaḥ = that (the transcendent); idam = this (the manifest world); udacyate = arises/emerges; ādāya = having taken; avaśiṣyate = remains. A profound declaration of non-duality: infinity minus infinity is still infinity.
Before meditation; as a contemplation on wholeness and non-duality.
ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಮಯ: Before meditation or study
Isha Upanishad (opening Shanti mantra); also Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 5.1
