A-sa-to maa sad ga-ma-ya
Ta-ma-so maa jyo-tir ga-ma-ya
Mri-tyor maa a-mri-tam ga-ma-ya
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih
असतो मा सद्गमय।
तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय।
मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥
Lead me from the unreal to the Real. Lead me from darkness to Light. Lead me from death to Immortality. Om — peace, peace, peace.
asat = unreal/false; mā = me; sat = Real/Truth; gamaya = lead; tamas = darkness/ignorance; jyotis = light/knowledge; mṛtyu = death; amṛtam = immortality/deathlessness.
Before meditation, study, or any spiritual practice. Also excellent for dawn prayer.
