Lord Vishnu is the Preserver god in the Hindu Trimurti. He maintains the cosmic order and descends to Earth as avatars whenever dharma is threatened.
Depicted with four arms holding the conch (Shankha), discus (Sudarshana Chakra), mace (Gada), and lotus, he reclines on Shesha (the cosmic serpent) in the ocean of milk.
His ten avatars (Dashavatara) include Rama and Krishna, who are widely worshipped independently.
