Meaning
Thirukkural places control of speech among the highest virtues, noting that more damage comes from ill-spoken words than from poorly executed deeds. The Vedic concept of vak (speech) is sacred — what we say shapes our relationships, reputation, and inner state simultaneously.
Practical Application
For one day, adopt this rule before speaking: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? All three must be met before the words leave your mouth. Notice how many things you choose not to say — and how much lighter the day feels.
